Strengthening the Self-Catering Sector

If you pull back the curtain and take a sneak peek into the inner workings of SuperControl, you will find a team of like-minded individuals with a blazing passion for the self-catering industry. Powering peace of mind for our community has always been a priority for SuperControl. Run by self-caterers for self-caterers, we are one tribe, working together for the greater good of our industry.

Collaboration, partnerships and industry expertise are fundamental to making positive change within the self-catering sector. We’ve been there – we know that things aren’t perfect, and with the pandemic leading to industry instability, SuperControl is proactively engaged in helping the trade associations lobby for positive change.

SuperControl has acknowledged the immediate need to champion our sector to decision-makers at government level. We are working in partnership with PASC UK and the ASSC by sponsoring the delivery of a major UK-wide report that explores the economic impact of the self-catering industry and its value to the UK economy.

We have invested substantially in this study’s sponsorship and are excited about its potential to bolster real change for self-caterers. This is a crucial piece of work and the greatest of its kind produced for the UK sector.

The study will explore the economic impact of visits made to self-catering providers in the UK. It will provide an area-by-area breakdown of expenditure and the impact on local economies. It aims to:

  • Assess expenditure by property-owners and managers, and visitors in the local economy.
  • Provide an independent, evidence-based, understanding of the direct and indirect economic impact/contribution of the self-catering sector in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.
  • Estimate the full-time equivalent jobs supported by the sector.
  • Assess the impact of COVID.

Not only will this study gather valuable data about the magnitude of the self-catering sector, but it will also enable meaningful lobbying activities to the English, Scottish and Welsh governments. The report will be the first step in promoting positive change and a better and brighter future for self-caterers in the post-pandemic world.

SuperControl has worked in close partnership with PASC UK and the ASSC for many years and we are passionate about the work they do to support and strengthen our industry. Collaboration with industry bodies is the cornerstone of ensuring the safety and security of our community. Together, we share crucial knowledge to support advocacy and growth of UK self-catering.

The commissioning and subsequent sponsorship of the UK study will introduce a new narrative for the self-catering sector, and SuperControl is proud to be a fundamental partner in this journey.
